New Field Updates
Updated Sunday July 16, 2017 by Dr. Phillips Little League.
As most of you know, three years ago we started the process of finding a permanent home for DPLL. Our current location is owned by Dr. Phillips Charities and they have graciously provided us a home for many years as well as supported the league in many other ways.
Since we use private property for our league we must assume all of the costs and expenses of maintaining the fields. These facilities maintenance costs include field upkeep, facility maintenance, lighting expenses, utilities, and many other expenses that must be borne by DPLL.
We have survived over the years by developing a deep group of local sponsors, to whom we are extremely grateful, and by charging the highest Little League per season registration fees in the area.
All other Little League's play on county or city owned fields. Meaning that the costs of maintenance and upkeep come from their direct rental of those facilities and from the county or city. Taxpayers defer a good deal of those expenses as part of the Parks and Recreation system.
So when the necessity arose our board and league supported a move to a County-owned facility as a way to lessen the financial burden on the league and to secure a permanent long term facility so that our kids would always have a place to play the game we love.
For the past three years the County Commissioners, led by Scott Boyd and now by Betsy Vanderlay, along with the generous support of Dr. Phillips Charities, we have worked to secure a new home for DPLL. Our new home will be an expansion of DP Park. The County allocated the funds and Dr. Phillips Charities donated the land to make this project a reality.
We have been assured by the County and by Dr. Phillips Charities that we will never be left without a continuous home for DPLL during the building process of these new fields.
Currently, we are working closely with the County on designs and plans for the new facility and we are very excited about what we are seeing. We will have a premier baseball complex in our community when it is completed.
As soon as we can share details about the timing of this move and specifics about the facility plan we will do so on this page.
We will also send out emails if there are any new developments.
Thanks and see you at the fields!
Recently there has been some misinformation posted on community forums talking about the new fields for DPLL. Attached is an email response from DP Charities (copied here with permission) detailing the Charities position and involvement in the project.
